What is the average lifespan of a flag?

Our flags are designed for outdoor use, with UV protection. Whether for country flags or custom flags, we generally use 210 deniers Nylon, with a rope and toggle in addition to a reinforced band, making them TOP QUALITY.

On average, it takes 6 to 8 months for the implant to settle before the first tears appear. However, this will all depend on:

  • Its QUALITY
    • We offer top quality, which is government-approved
  • Its INSTALLATION
    • the flag must not be hung from branches, a wall, another flagpole, etc.
  • REGULAR WINDS and INCLEMENT WEATHER
  • Its DIMENSIONS
  • Its INSTALLATION HEIGHT

DID YOU KNOW? If your Quebec or Canadian flag is torn or faded, it is considered desecrated and is against the law? Your flag must always be in good condition in order to respect flag protocol.

Is my City/Municipality required to display the Quebec flag in front of City Hall?

This rule applies to all institutional buildings such as: School Service Centres – schools – and Universities – Hospitals, CSSS, CLSC – police stations, fire stations – courthouses, prisons, etc.

What type of windsock do I need?

A windsock indicates both the "direction" and the "wind strength"

Why use two colors?

To also indicate the wind strength, as each colored band indicates the number of knots - the wind strength.

What determines the size?

The size of your windsock bracket will determine the size of the windsock. The bracket will allow your windsock to rotate with the wind… so NO, you can't screw it onto your pole!

Who uses windsocks?

Obviously, commercial and private airports, firefighters (for chemicals – arenas, factories, etc.), farmers, etc.

DID YOU KNOW? Airports use an ORANGE/WHITE windsock measuring 13 po dia x 5 ft L. This size meets airline standards. Several sizes are available, but this size/color is the most common.

Can I put 2 flags on my flagpole?

NEVER! If your flagpole isn't already designed to hold more than one flag – which is the case for most flagpoles in Canada.

What determines the size of my flag:

  • Flagpole TYPE
  • INSTALLATION TYPE
  • HEIGHT
  • DIAMETER
  • ALLOY TYPE

All of these factors will be crucial in determining the size of your flag. Therefore, based on these various details, we will recommend a flag sizeto meet both safety and aesthetic requirements.

WHY? The load force on the flagpole head, combined with the wind, can break the head of the flagpole, or even bend the shaft. Beyond the safety aspect, placing two flags one above the other is disrespectful to flags (protocol) and will also lead to premature wear and tear on the flags.

DID YOU KNOW? There is a protocol regarding the order in which different country and/or personalized flags are displayed. Depending on the institution/business, a specific order must be followed.

What is the standard for flags in institutional settings?

In Quebec, there are no standards on how to display your flag – however – institutions are required to display a Quebec or Canadian flag on their main buildings. Such as City Hall, municipal offices, offices of Members of Parliament (provincial and federal), libraries, etc.

NOTE: The law may differ from province to province; however, the display standard remains the same.

Is there a standard for the size of the flagpole or the flag itself?

There is no requirement regarding the size. The standards to be met are related to:

  • Outdoor display of the flag (Quebec or Canada)
  • Order of flag display
    • Example: In Quebec, institutions must display at least one Quebec flag
  • Compliance with flying at half-mast when required
  • Flag size in relation to the height of the flagpole (different standards for Quebec and Canada)

DID YOU KNOW? There is also a standard for the quality of the fabric, the rope and the bead, as well as the manufacturing method for Quebec and Canadian flags. Since our clientele is primarily institutional, we only offer flags that meet government standards.

How can I set up a flag at half-mast?

It should be noted that flying at half-mast is linked to a collective mourning period. Flying at half-mast can be done on a fixed date, for certain commemorations, or in personal or collective circumstances.

There are 2 official ways to lower a flagpole to half-mast:

  • Lower the flag to half the height of the flagpole
    • The most common method
  • Remove the flag completely from the flagpole
    • The less common method

How do I lower a flagpole (inner pole) to half-mast?

A black tie must be tied to the top of the pole, under the cap, above the flag. The black tie must meet specific manufacturing and installation standards.

DID YOU KNOW? That there are requirements for governments to fly flags at half-mast? In Canada, flying flags at half-mast is mandatory for the following: the Sovereign, Governor General, Prime Minister, the Sovereign's family, former Prime Minister, etc. In Quebec, when the flag is flown at half-mast, any other flag or banner in the same group must also be taken down or flown at half-mast. Some flags or banners are never flown at half-mast.

Can I have a custom flag made using a sports/company logo?

…The answer will always be NO! It has a copyright, represented by the following logo: © This logo is found on sports and corporate logos, so its use is prohibited. Only authorized distributors may officially resell it.

Even if we use said logo with a slight modification, the whole thing remains illegal and contravenes the Intellectual Property Law, copyrights… which can result in a significant fine.

What should I examine when inspecting my flagpole?

Depending on the model of your flagpole, there may be slight differences, but the essentials are as follows:

  • Check the bolts at the base of the flagpole
  • Check the swivel head (if applicable)
  • Check the proper functioning of the locking system (internal and external locking mechanisms)
  • Check the quality of the internal halyard system (rope)
  • Ensure there are no cracks in the flagpole, its base, or the concrete base
